Meet Mike
My name is Mike Foster and I’m running for the Superior Board of Trustees because I want to make a difference in our community while continuing to ensure that Superior is a great place to live, work and play!
My wife, Saadia, and I relocated from the San Francisco Bay Area in 2017 because we were looking for a change. We initially moved into the Bell Flatirons for a period of time before relocating to Broomfield while our new home in downtown Superior was finishing construction. We chose downtown for the soon-to-be walkable neighborhood, access to nearby trails and other amenities that make living in a downtown exciting.
I’ve worked in local government most of my career including the City of San Jose, Jefferson County and Boulder County. I also worked in the private sector with Pacific Gas & Electric Company. Most of my career has been working to solve challenging issues facing the public, which has required a lot of creative and out of the box thinking. I will continue to bring that creative problem solving to the Board of Trustees.
I’ve served as the Chairperson for Town’s Advisory Committee for Environmental Sustainability (ACES) since 2020 and in November 2023, I was elected to the Town’s Home Rule Charter Commission.
Since joining ACES, we’ve moved the needle on sustainability by getting the Board to approve the Town’s first Energy Action Plan and first Sustainability Action Plan and have made recycling at home more convenient and have made significant strides in curbside composting, but much work is yet to be done.
Between December 2023 and May 2024, my fellow Commissioners and I drafted a ‘Constitution’ for the Town, called a Charter. This Charter provides guidance for the Town’s elected officials and is a form government that:
- Shifts power from the state legislature to the residents of superior.
- Provides more freedom in choosing our own destiny – residents of the future can change the Charter based on what’s important to them at that time, and
- Enhances protection for Open Space
